As an employer, you have a legal obligation to deduct income tax and national insurance contributions (NIC) from your employees’ wages and pensions, and pay them to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) through the Pay As You Earn (PAYE) system.

This ensures that your employees pay the right amount of tax and NIC on their income, and that you comply with the tax laws and regulations.

But you may be asking yourself "How do I make PAYE payments to HMRC?". Well this guide is for you, as we guide you step-by-step through the process. Or if you prefer there is a video at the bottom of this post showing the process as well.

Step-by-step guide

  • Scroll down to the pay online section and click 'Pay Now'

  • Select pay without signing in

  • Enter your accounts office reference

  • You can find this on your Brightpay portal. Go to HMRC Payments and then click into any of the months.

  • Alternatively we can provide you with it if you can't locate it

  • Select monthly and the period you want to pay

  • Enter the amount you need to pay

  • Select how you wish to pay it and follow through the payment process
